This high fired red spinning top has been decorated with underglaze and glaze to give it the impression of having been dug up from the earth. Spinning tops are the oldest toys ever discovered by archeologists and have been found all over the world. Clay tops have been found in Troy, Turkey (3000 BC), in Thebes, Greece (1250 BC) and in the ancient city of Ur in the Middle East dating back to 3500 BC.
